normalslife has a question about the Custom Don't rule (days/week) rule.

Hi all, I want to try not spending any money at all 1 day per week, but I’m confused about the custom don’t rule… If I fill in the custom rule with “spend money” and reduce the partaking of this action to 6 days, that would meant that I am NOT spending any money one day per week, right?
I feel like I’m getting lost in the double negatives.

yes that’s pretty much it, though it makes more sense if you use the format like the rest of the don’t rules, that is, prefixing with the word “allow” so that your rule becomes “allow spending money 6 days a week” as opposed to “spend money 6 days a week”. it’s just a semantic thing, but to me it has a psychological effect, cuz the 1st format makes it clear your trying to avoid spending, while the 2nd sounds like you’re trying to encourage it.

the real confusion comes if you want to limit an action to 0 days, because then if you use the standard format it ends up reading “allow the custom thing everyday” which is totally opposite of what the rule is really saying! so in that case what i did was prefix it with the words “refuse to”, and that works. but no matter how you word it, you don’t have to worry about it being confusing when you play the rule on a given day’s turn, because regardless of how you’ve written the rule, the question asked is always “Did you indulge in what you are trying to limit with this rule?” which is pretty clear how to answer.

Okay, not bad for a month which I was sick for half of. Changing the veggies rule to a cook dinner rule, as I’ve been completely made of fail where that’s concerned, and I have hopes that I’m much more aware of my vegetable eating now – enough that it might have turned into habit. I guess I’ll find out.

Weight is up and down but I am happy that I didn’t GAIN weight after all these slip ups in diet. I think I am going to be pretty strict with diet rules in March.
