How come there is a walk your dog rule and not a ___ your cat rule?
Maybe this is why.

Do it right after you are done getting ready, before you eat. When you get back you can eat and go to work.

How good are you about walking your dog? I’m able to cheat because DH takes dog for morning runs which means I can feel okay about throwing her in the back of the car and driving around running errands all day and not feel guilty about getting her out. What’s your regular habit and how can I improve? Inquiring dogs want to know!

I make it a habit that my dog gets walked once in the morning (a short walk around the block) and then a long walk before dinner (an hour long walk). He really looks forward to it so it makes me feel guilty if I want to skip a day. His little heart is crushed so I make it a point to stick to this routine! Hope this helps! :)

Okay, so I gotta question for you guys. Say it is the end of the week and you have a rule to walk your dog and you HAVE to walk your dog today or lose a life point. What do you do if it is raining? My dogs won’t go out in the rain because they are afraid of melting so I really can’t walk them in the rain. Do I lose the life point or make it up the following week? Just wondering what you guys would do. =)

Hmm. I usually end up losing the life point on those kind of rules. I don’t let myself carry over to the following week, for me that just leads to chaos…

:) theichibun

I’d say to just lose it too. You could have walked them earlier and didn’t.

So, the dog goes to his step-mother’s tomorrow, but I have a “walk the dog” rule 2x per week. What should I do?

:) Mimick

Take yourself on a walk 2x a week.

Do I have to use the leash?

:) ereynolds17

Yes, you need to drag an empty lease around. People will stare.

:) akiirish

An empty lease? That would be really weird.

I think I’ll just walk the cat. After the immediate onset of road rash (due to the dragging) she will comply.

So if I am out of town on business and pay someone to walk my dog, does that count?

:) Nimnyn

I guess it depends on your intent with that rule. Did you choose it to make sure that you or your dog got exercise?

:) ilikebasil

Both, I guess. I really chose it so I wouldn’t blow off the daily walk out of laziness. Its one thing for my bad habits to impact my health, but my dog shouldn’t suffer because I’m lazy.

:) Rebekah Loper

well, since you’re not blowing it off because you’re lazy, but because you’re out of tow, I say it counts :)

:) MGB

I agree with Rebekah.

:) baturtle

I agree as well. Maybe you could double it up by saying that you have only followed the rule if you a) hire someone to walk your dog and b) get exercise, wherever you are.

:) ilikebasil

I like that idea. So I will give myself credit for the hired walker ONLY if I follow my exercise rule as well. Thanks all for the feedback.

8-) I had the walk your dog rule last month, but didn’t do so well because of my annual bout with bronchitis….
