Yesterday in Whole Foods I saw hazelnut milk, in both chocolate and vanilla. I like hazelnuts themselves, but often find ‘hazelnut foods’ overpowering or cloying. How nutty tasting are nut ‘milks’ like hazelnut or almond, in general? (Not even sure I’m asking this very well…)

I rarely have hazelnut milk before. I think hazelnut gives quite good source of energy.

I find that the taste and texture experience improves exponentially by mixing at least 5 different types of nuts, beans or seeds when snacking or prepping a meal. My favorite mix for legumes is lentils, soya, red, black, kidney, pinto, spinach, peas, bit of corn, red peppers, with a touch of barley in there to soak up some of the stock. I cook with vegetable stock, mustard powder, paprika, garlic oil, pepper, and as I love things spicy…LOTS of chili sauce. I then freeze them into 5 tupperware for my lunch at work. Yummy high protein, slow carb, and delicious (but perhaps not so pretty to look at).

Most amazing thing is it never gives me gas. Awesome.

I made some hummus a month or so ago, and since the batch was quite huge (I used a whole bag of dried chickpeas) I froze some of it. Now, I don’t use tahini in mine, because I can’t get it ‘round here easily, so ymmv, but it froze and defrosted BEAUTIFULLY. How easy would it be to make and freeze a batch of hummus in little jelly jars or other small containers to pack in lunches? Now I’m looking for seed quality chickpeas for this year’s garden!

Kacang adalah istilah non-botani yang biasa dipakai untuk menyebut biji sejumlah tumbuhan polong-polongan (namun tidak semua). Dalam percakapan sehari-hari, kacang dipakai juga untuk menyebut buah (polong) atau bahkan tumbuhan yang menghasilkannya. Di Jakarta, kata “kacang” biasanya dimaksudkan untuk polong kacang tanah. Kata ini sebenarnya dipakai untuk menyebut biji kering yang berbentuk menyerupai ginjal dan dimakan setelah dikeringkan.

Pengertian “kacang” tidak sama dengan nut dalam bahasa Inggris, namun lebih dekat dengan pengertian pulse ditambah dengan kedelai, kacang tanah dan sejumlah sayuran legum (kacang panjang).

Kacang biasanya mengandung protein dan/atau lemak yang cukup tinggi, sehingga banyak yang dihargai sebagai bahan pangan yang penting. Biji legum kering yang besar dan mengandung banyak tepung biasanya tidak disebut “kacang”, melainkan “kara” atau “koro”.

Dalam konteks pangan, “kacang” dipakai pula untuk menyertai nama produk pangan olahan yang biasanya dibuat dari kacang tanah.

Eat plenty of foods that are rich in calcium. People in their early twenties need to be build up stores of calcium in their bodies to prevent osteoporosis in later life. If you don’t like milk, try to include ample amounts of low-fat yogurt, low-fat cheese, and green leafy vegetables in your diet.
